We have already received 2.75” of rain at the airport and rainfall totals have topped 8 inches over some parts of the delta. The high today in Jackson will be in the mid 70s. Later tonight as the rain comes to an end the low will drop to 64. Better weather is on the way for Friday and the weekend. 2008-05-15T09:49:00-06:00 A flash flood watch is in effect for the Jackson area and points north through Thursday. Heavy rain will move in from the west during the afternoon and stick around for the next 36 hours. Up to 4 inches of rain could fall locally. Look for temperatures to hold in the lower to mid 70s today and tonight. The rain in the metro will be light. Winds will come in from the southeast today pushing our temperature to near 80 for a high despite the cloud cover. The chance of rain will go up tonight and tomorrow as a cold front approaches. Considering the weather in the central and southern portions of Mississippi today, it was a great day to get outside. Tonight the breezy conditions we experienced this afternoon will subside and under clear skies, temperatures will fall into the lower 50s by morning. But by afternoon, another sun-filled afternoon will help warm us into the lower 80s. Expect a strong line of showers and thunderstorms to move through our area between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. The strongest storms will be in northern Mississippi, but all areas should be prepared for strong winds, large hail and isolated tornadoes.
