Southern Miss Battles Down To The Wire

Just when I thought the game was out of reach last night at The Rock, a very unsteady Stephen Reaves showed several signs of newfound composure, and led the Southern Miss Golden Eagles within two points of the Rice Owls.  Now granted he was injured, Jeremy Young was injured, and Montevious Young broke his leg.

But all in all, it was hands down one of the worst games I have ever seen Southern Miss play.  The Golden Eagle faithful should not be content with an “almost came back on them” loss to what was an 0-4 Rice team last night.

When one aspect of your team fails, your squad should be good enough for some other aspect to pick up the slack.  That was not the case (with the excpetion of the 4th quarter) last night.

It was kind of like watching Southern Miss wake up from a bad dream, only in time to realize that the Boogeyman was indeed real, and that he just did some major harm to the program.

Now, it’s wait and see for the Golden Eagles, as Jeff Bower’s boys have a long stretch to think about the loss and move on from the tough conference loss.  SMU awaits a date in Hattiesburg, and the team needs to show something else to the crowd to get people more fired up about football in 2007.
