Neshoba County Fair
Don’t you just love the fair? It’s one of my favorite things about summer. As a little girl my dad would take me to the state fair each year. I loved hanging out in the 4-H barn looking at the prized hogs, the beautifully sheared sheep and watching the march of those giant, majestic Draft horses. The carnival rides were fun, but I loved the animals more. To this day, the smell of fresh bailed hay and cow manure makes me smile.
Next week, I get the chance to relive those girlhood memories when I head north to Neshoba County for the annual fair. What makes this one so much more exciting for me is the political history. What was once a two day agriculture exhibit for Mississippi farmers, is now a giant eight day house party that puts the state’s biggest political campaigns and their candidates in the spotlight. This little county festival has come quite a long way since it’s humble beginnings in 1889 and I can’t wait to experience it.
Next Wednesday and Thursday I will be meeting with some of this year’s candidates to find out how they stand on key issues like health care, immigration reform, how we can change Mississippi’s image and what can we do to recruit new jobs and companies to our state.
I’d love to hear from you about questions you’d like answered from those running for Governor, Lt. Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State and Insurance Commissioner. Send your questions to me and I’ll put them to the candidate.
I hope you’ll watch for my special reports next Wednesday and Thursday LIVE from the Neshoba County Fair. And if you’re up that way…please be sure to stop by and say “hi.” Just look for the big WJTV Satellite Truck on the fairgrounds.
See you at the fair!
