Abuse Victims (100)

What action should police be allowed to take if an abuse victim refuses to press charges?

Until you have lived in an abusive situation you all have absolutely no right to judge. I tried to leave once and after 6 months my husband found me and beat me so bad I almost died in the hospital. It’s mortifying and just not as easy as you all think. Get off your high horses.

First of all, I knew Heather a long time ago and I am a Law Enforcement Officer who takes Domestic Violence cases very seriously. I work closely with Reps. from the A.G.‘s Office and have learned alot to help the fight against Domestic Violence, I cannot say enough great things about the A.G.‘s office in the fight against Domestic Violence.  Officers have a duty to make an arrest and pursue charges if evidence of Domestic Violence/Abuse is present even if the victim does not wish too, and they should. I have never overlooked evidence in a Domestic Violence case nor has anyone from my agency and will never.Officers have the power and should utilize it. I wish that there was something that I could do to help.

I think that when someone s being abused and they refuse to press charges the police should still take action. If it continues 2 happen the next time could be really fatal!

Ms Tyler, Knowning the Spencer family personally, and their faith in God. It is easy for us all to sit back and say get over it. They know that God is able, but it takes time to heal their wounds, but unless you have been in their shoes it is quite insensitve to tell them to get over it, . Healing even with the Lord guideing will take time, and as a friend I will be their as long as they need. There was consequences for actions even in the Bible. That is all they are asking and I know that they do not want others to suffer as they are and have.

I was an abuse victim but feared pressing charges.  I WANTED the police to arrest and charge him. When there is evidence a crime has been committed the police should have the authority to take action in order to protect the innocent.
