Child Abuse (47)

What do you think DHS could do to prevent deadly child abuse?

I recently moved here from Euless TX to be with my mother. I have a BS degree in Sociology. I would love to work for DHS as an Investigator. There is a lot more going on behind closed doors than what is being reported.

The DHS is a joke.
The few workers that are really doing their jobs, simply can not cover for all of the payroll riders. They do NO investigating. There are as many people who are innocent of any wrong doing as there are guilty ones in the system. The whole system needs to be investigated.

I JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND HOW ANYONE CAN LET A CHILD GO HUNGRY. IT BRINGS TEARS TO MY EYES TO EVEN IMAGINE HOW THAT POOR BABY SUFFERED. THIS JUST GOES TO SHOW DHS NEEDS TO STEP UP AND DO THEIR JOB. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THIS TO HAPPEN.

The system has been broken for a long time. My sister’s grandchildren were being abused by their mother & her boyfriends. She played a tape to one of our judges that had the children screaming & begging not to go home. She had pictures showing abuse. He agreed they were being abused, but nothing was done. Everytime she went to DHS, she found most of the employees standing around chatting & joking but claimed they were overloaded with cases! This is a terrible black eye for Mississippi.

I believe alot of the abuse culd be prevented if the social workers would “actually” go to the houses that have been reported for child abuse.  The workers just receive a paycheck.

I THINK IT IS SO SAD THAT OUR SYSTEM FAILED THIS BABY.  OUR TAX PAYING DOLLARS HELP SUPPORT DHS, AND THEY FAIL MANY FAMILY’S EVERYDAY. BUT THE WORST IS FOR A BABY TO DIE SUCH A HORRIBLE DEATH.  DHS WORKERS ARE SO RUDE AND YES IT SEEMS THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT GETTING A PAYCHECK, NOT THE BEST INTEREST OF THE CHILDREN.  SOMEONE SHOULD HAVE BEEN MONITORING THESE KIDS

If DHS would have more financial help from the government in which to hire more workers, then they will be able to come out on surpirise visits to know something is wrong. And if more people were involved in the welfare of our children, such as, concerned neighbors, teachers and relatives, maybe we can slow this trend down.

From what I understand, DHS has to call and schedule a time to come out there.  That’s where the problem is.  With proper identification, they should be allowed (and the laws will have to change to reflect maybe 2-3 surprise visits for one month and then taper off some), if parents or adults don’t know someone is coming they will be caught.  If they get a call they will be on their best behavior.
