What an honor and blessing to be able to witness this important time in history at such a place as the Medgar Evers House Museum. This is a place, along with Tougaloo College, that encompasses the struggles and accomplishments of a people and of a country. How significant is it that we can witness the inauguration of the country’s first African-American president from a place such qas this. I pray that God continues to bless and order the steps of President Obama, his family, his administration and this wonderful country. God Bless America. |

I just stood in the yard of slain civil rights leader, Medgar Wiley Evers. I stood in the driveway where he was guned down by hatred and ignorance and watched the 44th President of the United States of Americaget sworn in - who happens to be an African American. How proud I was to stand there in Evers yard and think about what he and the ancestors who fought in the vineyard and gave the ultimate sacrifice for my good today would say if they were standing along side me. I echo Medgar when he said, “I don’t know if I am going to hell or heaven; but I’m going from Jackson. On this historic day, Jacksonians should take a personal oath. Jacksonians should say that no matter what, Jackson can and will rebuild this great city. We will rebuild communities that are blighted and destroyed. We will address the crime issue. We will help the homeless and the least of thee. Just like the U.S., now with new found hope in the inaguration of Barack Obama; YES JACKSON CAN!and WE WILL |
