Erin Pickens,
A teenaged boy was found dead in the bathroom of his home in Lexington, MS, today, July 19, 2007.  His father, Melvin Torrey has always beat his excessively and kept him captive in their home.  The neighbors have called the police and reported his beatings in the past but nothing was ever done.  His death should be investigated.  His body is at Porter & Sons Funeral Home in Lexington, MS.  Please help.

I watched your story on Daffany today. When she disappeared I was a Investigator with the JPD assigned to the crime scene unit. I was one of the few officers assigned to the case. We were in the middle of another disappearance of wealthy socialite, Annie Hearin. In the thousands of cases that I worked only a few bother me to this day. One of them is Daffany’s case. I know that the JPD did not do all it could to solve this case. Politics and wealth dictated where the resources would go.

As a crime scene investigator I was involved in both investigations. The detective who was assigned Daffany’s case did all she could but the leadership of the department just did not put a priority on it at the time.

With both cases I did not think we would ever find either victim alive. I had hoped but I knew the odds.

Not a day goes by that I don’t think of Daffany. Every time I see a news story about a lost child being found, I ask myself why not Daffany?

Thank you,
