i believe that alcohol should be banned period because it causes to many problems already so what do you think it would be like if eighteen year olds was allowed to buy beer these people that want to lower the drinking age are not looking at the big picture they are looking at more MONEY for there pockets and more people getting killed because of it.

No.  If anything I think it should be raised.  Children should think about the future and getting a career for themselves.  Not studying alcohol or drugs.

the logic behind lowering the drinking age is somewhat sound, imho. if you take away the taboo of drinking, then binge drinking should lose much of it’s appeal. another way to look at it is that keeping the young people on campus will reduce the driving being done after the alcohol consumption.the perfect scenario would be for everyone to wait until true adulthood to choose whether or not to indulge. sorry, that doesn’t seem to be the norm.

The way I see it is as follows:

I, personally, have no interest in drinking, i don’t see the point in it, however, as things currently stand, I can be drafted, go off and loose a limb defending this country, come back a year later, and not even be able to have a beer or a glass of wine with my friends. How is this fair?

As for the dangers of drinking. Countries with drinking ages lower than the US tend to suffer less alcohol related crimes. This is because, for them, alcohol is just a part of life, and not a temptation. There is also far less binge drinking.

A lot of binge drinking here comes from the fact that they aren’t supposed to have what they have, and they don
t know when their next chance to use it will be.

However, in the immediate wake of a lowering of the drinking age, I can almost guarantee there would be an increase in alcohol abuse.

To sum it all up, in the long run this course of action would decrease overall alcohol abuse, alcohol related crime, and alcohol related accidents. But, in the immediate future, these things would likely increase.

I feel the best course of action would be to lower the drinking age in steady increments, maybe dropping it a year every two or three years until it reaches 18. This would decrease the immediate repercussions, while still reaping the benefits.

Thinking that lowering the drinking age would diminish binge drinking is about as dunb as thinking that leagalizing liquor would keep it away from our youth!
