State Farm: No More Policies (13)
A company official says State Farm is suspending sales of any new commercial or homeowner policies in Mississippi. Tell us what you think about this.

We in Mississippi have grown to expect a handout. When we buy coverage we consider what the cost is an how much of the risk we are will to take. We now want the contract to be altered to suit ourselves. But of course we in Miss would be just as happy if the government would give us the money as long as we do not have to be responsible for our decisions and actions or lack of action. The next time you see an attorney commercial remember that somebody is going to have to pay. It will be the ones of us who are paying premiums. I was born here and are planning to leave soon. The attitudes of the Welfare State will decay in it’s own waste. |

No, Letrice, I do not work for an insurance company. I am just able to think for myself and make an informed decision. I do not allow the overwhelming majority of idiots to make decisions for me. I am deeply involved in relief efforts for Katrina. I was one of the first people to go to the coast after the storm passed. I feel for all the victims. I lost alot of property too. But you do not see me crying about how the insurance agencies cheated me. I read my policy and took the chance that I would not need flood insurance. My bad. Not theirs. I don’t expect the insurance company to pay for coverage I did not have. Plain and simpple. Too many people want a handou instad of taking the blame where it should be. |

If everyone would be outraged by the way they have handled Hurricane Katrina victims then maybe Statefarm would listen. This a national disgrace!!! |

Ken and Wayne must work for insurance companies. Good job Mr. Hood.. Thank you for standing up to big business and not let them take advantage of Mississippians. They take your money when things are good, but want to pull out when it is time to pay. That’s sad. |

Look at your insurance policy. If it does not specificaly have a Flod Coverage Rider, you are not covered for floods. Floods are defined as rising water and wind driven water. The only coverage from water would be if the wind blew the roof off and the rain ruined everything in the house. If your house is there with a water line at the roof level, the insurance company has the evidence to show that it was flood damage. People, stop asking for hand outs. Get out there and do the research and make informed decisions. State Farm is not the only insurance company that has denied claims on the coast. All of them have. The reason you are so enraged about State Farm is it is the one being publicized. I commend State Farm for having the balls to stand up and say “enough is enough”. I have my cars insured with them and will continue to do so because they have outstanding service. And yes, Mississippi does need State Farm more than State Farm needs MS. |

I don’t blame State Farm for pulling out of the state of Mississippi. Mr. Hood completely screwed the general public for his grandstanding. All insurance policies read exactly the same. Go get your policy and read it yourself if you don’t believe me. Homeowners policies do not cover floods. Floods are rising water. So when water comes up, you are not covered by your homeowner policy. And, in good faith, an insurance policy is a contract between the policy holder and the insurance company. I don’t blame them for pulling out of Mississippi one bit. If you can’t enforce a binding contract between two parties, then what is the point of having contracts in the first place. Shame on Mr. Hood for playing politics on the backs of hard working Mississippians. |

I think if State Farm can’t offer homeowners policies in Mississippi; then they shouldn’t be allowed to offer car insurance in Mississippi. The way they handled Katrina claims is just ridiculous. I think they should be banned in Mississippi altogether. Alot of people pay their premiums and never file a claim. As soon as they need the insurance company to come through for them; they let them down. I say to hell with State Farm. I don’t believe for one minute that they don’t need the business in Mississippi. After the way they handled Katrina claims; they will probably need Mississippi more than they think. |
