Jackson’s Public School District (97)

I was a problem child when I was a first grader in JPS during the 1980’s and did get paddled some, but I was put in line when I went to a private school the next two years and they applied that paddle whenever I got out of line.  My parents did the same thing and I did straighten out.  What are we doing to our children when we don’t paddle them at an early age?  If the school is “in loco parentis,” then the school should use corporal punishment so the children aren’t harmed for life.  We definitely shouldn’t suspend children in lieu of corporal punishment.  That takes them out of the classroom and teaches them everything bad.  The world will not wait for the US to catch up, we must work to survive and we should instill this into our children. 1) Educate children correctly and don’t fill them with meaning less fluff and drivel.  2) All children should be expected to achieve, so don’t slow the class down for one or a few. 3) If a child is misbehaving, then use something on him quickly and don’t punish other children by stopping the teaching for a long time.

I want to know if the school board members have children that attend Jackson Public Schools.  If they don’t, why do we have people that don’t think JPS is good enough for their kids making decisions for ours?

I want to know why JPS allow eighth grade students to partispate class day and then not let them know that they didn’t pass to ninth grade.
Some parents are not able to go out and spend extra money to buy outfits that day.PEEPLE MIDDLE teachers told my grandson he passed and a week after class day they sent his grade card stateing he was retained in eighth grade.I’m old and sick and can’t get around well.Didn’t have the extra money to spend.something need to be done about this situation.Don’t encourage a child and then disencourage him or her after the fact.
Who can I talk to about this.
This is fifteen year old.I sure need help in this.

I would like to know why are children with ADHD are being constantly suspended from school and no one has put up a red flag. My son is 8 years old and has been put out of school more than he should be. He has fallen so far behind because of it. The teachers spend more time on the phone than actually trying to deal with what’s going on. Has anyone thought about how the child may feel. Do anyone care? What kind of message are we sending?  I remember my child coming home one day and telling me that quote “The children in my school don’t like me because they think I’m dumb”. It’s that ok. When was a making a child feel dumb ok? When was making a child feel like he not worth the trouble it takes to teach him what he needs to know. I have called downtown on this particular school too many times and have not received a single call back. I have left messages since November and not one person bothered to call back. Am I wrong for caring about my child enough to call and ask them to do something about the problem at hand.Also. has anyone in the school system thought about the parents of these children. I always hear about how frustrated THEY are, how THEY can’t get anything done because They have sooo much on there plate, and how They don’t have the time to concentrate on one child because They have other important things to do. What about US and OUR children? Are we not entitled to be frustrated with teachers calling all day? Are we not entitled to be frustrated with the fact that everytime we turn around OUR children are being LEFT BEHIND. Isn’t this some form of discrimination? I am one of the many concerned, frustrated and down right tired parents who have to deal with this discrimination every week.WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN!!!!!

Just reading the post and seeing the poor grammar and spelling tells me all I need to know about Jackson schools. It will take a total overhaul of JPS to fix the problems.

Why is it now that when a fight breaks out between Black students and white students all of a sudden a member of the NAACP comes to the school? I saw this on the news can the school not handle there own students. I don’t see the difference in the NAACP and the KKK. They both stick their nose in business they have no right to. Kids will fight and that is all there is to it. I’ve seen politicians fight and people really think that kids aren’t going to follow.

I think that Keyon needs to talk to the police and tell them what really went down on the night of November 29.Pittman also needs to tell the Banks family, so we can have some kind of closure in our life.
