Jackson’s Public School District (97)

In November, Jackson voters overwhelming approved a $150 million bond issue for Jackson Public Schools. Since then, several teachers, principals and even the district’s superintendent have been involved in allegations of inappropriate behavior. “Share Your Thoughts” on the status of the Jackson Public School District.

A former Chastain teacher, I feel that a prayer has been answered with Mr. Ellis being terminated.  The school was in a constant state of confusion and the faculty was given no support. I, as well as half of the staff, left the school last year, but have not stopped praying for the students and the remaining teachers.  JPS has a lot to work on, from the top down, if they want to hire and keep good educators.  It truly saddens me.

The overall outlandish incidents that have been occuring within Jackson Public Schools is totally unacceptable.  We send our children to school everyday with the intentions of them receiving a quality education.  What type of example are we setting? Where happened to the term quality? The No Child Left Behind motto is sadly but surely being put into place in a negative aspect. Nevertheless, thank you JPS for the teachers you do possess within the schools that are doing what they are supposed to do. You are worthy and appreciated.

I think that the Jackson public School need get more professional on the way they are handling things. The children are our future and right now they are suffering. Jackson Public Schools has the worst schools in Hinds County. With the scores not as high as Clinton, and Byram they really do not need this bad publicity. However if JPS would have did things right on the front end things would be a lot better.

As a person and employee ofJPS that retired on disability, i have first hand experience of issues being swept under the rug.  These include broken commandments and infringemenrs of basic human rights.  I can sympathize with Mr. Ellis’s concern for impartial & fair treatment.

The ‘Chastain Choas’ that going on right now has and will affect the students there. How can students focus on what’s important when there is such ‘drama’ going on around them? I think the JPS District needs to sit back and reasses themselves honestly and fairly, starting from the ground up. They have lost their focus when it comes to the children anyway. Where are their books to study with. What happened to the open door policy where parents have a voice? I believe parents don’t have a voice unless it benefits the District. What happend to the compentent teachers and the ones that actually care about their students? Let the PTA/PTSA parents of JPS create an evaluation/questionaire for the entire District and let’s see what the response will be.

It is so sad that just because all these issues are surfacing at one time the public thinks JPS has a problem with ethics, morals , hiring standards etc.. You people need to wake up and see that just because it hasn’t been reported in Clinton, Madison or Ridgeland does not mean that it doesn’t go on there too.

Education is an honorable profession.  Those in education should act with honor more times than not.  Choose what is right to do even if it is difficult. And do it.  Socrates says
“The shortest and surest way to live with honour in the world, is to be in reality what we would appear to be; and if we observe, we shall find, that all human virtues increase and strengthen themselves by the practice of them.”
