My child is bullied at Byram Middle School.  Bullying is a serious problem at this school.  Last year my child came home with a bruise on her arm.  I carried her to the school the following day, met with the principal, and showed him the bruise.  He tried to minimize the situation and never punished these children.  This year my child was punished for having a verbal altercation with the same girl who caused my daughter’s injury.  The principal, whether intentionally or not, allowed my child to be placed in the same classroom with the girls who I reported had bullied her. I even
reported this to the superintendent.  The only thing that occurred was my daughter’s schedule was changed.  The student’s in the new class bullied her also.  My daughter is a fair complexioned, intelligent 12-year old with extremely long hair.  She has come home this year with her hair in a bag where she had cut out the gum that these girls chewed and put in her hair.  I have taught my daughter to try to ignore the jealousies of the bullies.  The 7th grade assistant principal told my daughter that he could not do anything about what people say.  The 7th grade counselor told my daughter not to draw attention to herself and to blend in with the others.  My daughter “draws attention to herself” by reading novels at lunch when she does not want to eat and by flicking her hair out of her face.  The counselor recommended that she not do these things. There is also a school safety law that indicates that all acts of violence that occur at a school are to be reported or the administrator can face criminal charges.  The administrators try to conceal the problems that occur at their school by stating that one does not exist or they handle problems when they arise.  Other than camels, I have never seen any other group do such a great job of burying their head in the sand.
The adults who are in charge of protecting our children need to be punished more than the children who are doing the bullying.

While the schools have larger kids on the bus with smaller kids. The smaller kids are afarid of the larger kids. My kid was bully by a older kid 13 telling a 8yearols study to punch my kid in head. Bolton-edwards Elm. Told us to call the bus barn. My kid and the other smaller kid got three days off the bus and school. I think that wasn’t fair to the 13 yr old child to stay on the bus when he initial the
fight. My child missing school for defending himself from being bully is not safe. But the parents in the dist. doesn’t fight for harsh rules as three days out of school and bus.

I have had to take my 14 year old daughter out of North West Rankin Middle school and home school her because of a bully. The school knew about it and did nothing but tell my daughter to get a tougher skin. This is an outrage. I am not a stay at home mom, I work full time, have an autistic son and a mother with stage 4 kidney cancer. I know the school cannot keep my daughter safe and home school was the only alternative for us.

Sunday September 30th 1984 I went to the hospital with a broken arm at the shoulder. upon returning to Pearl High School, I was bullied by a larger black kid while in class. That incident caused a lot of hatred for years after, until I was releived of it by the Lord. People don’t understand just how much resentment, pain, anger etc. can go unchecked before coming to the surface. I thank my Lord everyday I had the best parents :) who got me away from the Pearl School system before the problems surfaced.

To me people that are apart of gangs are lost little minds that are waiting to be found. It ridicalous that I live and walk dangerous grounds everyday I go to school or even my town.I love my town to death. It’s not the town that bad its some people and the town.
