If you are not alarmed by the influx of illegal immigrants in MS, take a short trip to Texas. Daily life, there, will change your feelings forever. The financial burden is stunning. The takeover is sobering. From enormous property taxes needed to support their medical, educational, and housing needs, to a completely over-run state welfare system, to mexican background music in stores, to hospitals folding under the load, to the American Pledge of Allegiance being recited in spanish over the PA system daily in public schools. The Bi-lingual Education Act has destroyed public education in Texas. Everyday, American students have to wait while the lesson is taught in spanish before they can get instruction in English. This cuts instruction time in half. Textbooks are printed in spanish, bi-lingual teachers have to be hired in every school. Public education scores are nose-diving in Texas. Federal funding for eduation is decreasing because standards can’t be met. How do you keep education standards up when millions of students don’t even speak English, and don’t want to. You can’t imagine that you are still in America in many places in Texas. Be watchful and careful, MS, because it is coming at you. If you don’t take steps to stop it you will not recognize your beautiful state. It happens so quickly. Before you label me as a racist, let me say that I am FOR all immigrants who come here, LEGALLY, and pay taxes and learn our language, and teach their children about our country and traditions. I do not feel obligated to change my language or traditions, or support their medical and educational needs. And, I will never see any sense in requiring American children to recite our Pledge in Spanish, and yet, it happens ever morning in Texas.

i think that the border patrol should be allowed to shot to kill any Mexicans coming across the border illegaly. mexicans are taking the jobs from Mississippions be cause the work for so little pay local police & sheriff depts. should be allowed to be able to conduct raids on known places where illegals stay & work. arrest & charge people who hire illegal mexicans if they are repeat offenders 3 or more times then they should have to do prison time not less then 3 years.

2.  Punish employers for knowkingly hiring illegals.
3.  Deny any services to persons here illegally.
4.  Cut off funding or tax exempt status to any US organization that promotes or encourages aliens to come or remain here.

I realize that the illegal immigrants create financial problems within the US, but this is nothing new. Poor people in America are said to have the same problems. America the richest nation still has poverty and that is not caused by the illegals alone. The illegals come over and are hired to do jobs that our citizens do not want to do but would rather live on Medicaid, food vouchers, subsidized housing and the list goes on rather than be paid the minimum wage, which in this economy is almost impossible to survive. We should take a closer look at Senator Obama’s plan. But also it is time that the middle-class/ rich non-minorities must rid themselves of their servitude attitudes. Non-whites no longer have to submit to a master. Even though they are here illegally they do contribute to the economy because the majority of them work, buy groceries, clothes etc.

Although it’s not exactly the same thing, now you all how the ordinary Iraqis feel - someone just walk into your backyard and take over ... check the log in your eye…

It may sound ironical but making it easier to come and work in America will reduce the problem because:
(1) Immigrants will be willing to get documented without fear of losing opportunity to stay
(2) The government will gain full tax benefit
(3) Many immigrants will tend to work temporarily then go back home and invest in their home countries
(4) It will be easier to catch the criminals among them as the criminals will probably not be willing to be documented
(5)Improve Human rights and person freedoms in the country as “illegal” immigrants will not be vulnerable to mistreatment as they are today
(6)Increase minimum wage as illegals will have more freedom to choose and no really likes to work for next to nothing unless they absolutely have their backs to the wall
(7) Improve the quality of products and services because companies will not be able to compete purely on lowest price due to ultra-cheap labor)

“Illegal” immigrants do not “take” anyone’s job, they just make their own opportunities, unlike the Mississippians who CHOOSE to sit at home, complain and refuse to take advantage of the numerous opportunities that their citizenship affords them. Work hard or do what it takes to get ahead. The government is giving away millions in grant money, free education, free services. I guarantee you, and it’s been proven that if all the “illegals” disappeared Wal-Mart would never pay a $25 minimum wage, they would just put machines at the cash register! Always remember, its the ECONOMY - ask you local legistlative who controls it. Studies may show the “billions” that “Illegal” burden our economy with. Even thought about the “billions” in productivity that they pump into the economy? Are you willing to pay double for your groceries the next time you go to the score? Ask your legistlator?

America sells its values of freedom, democracy and opportunity to the world, then turns its back on those who want a share in it. Majority of recent immigrants just want the opportunity to get a head start at a decent living.  Take a poll - you will find that a vast majority want to go back home eventually.  The immigration system is archaic and many “illegals” remain in that status after being frustrated by the immigration system. It’s such a huge hypocrisy as they are keeping our economy going at cost and pay sales tax.  Why can’t Mississippi lead the country for once - instead of ostracizing productive labor, give them legal status and let them buy houses and pay more taxes, we need all we can get in MS anyway.

We could start on a local level.  We could have “illegal free counties” or some such thing.  A place you know that everyone is on an equal footing for pay and hiring.  Right now illegals by nature are breaking the law and bypassing taxes and the minimum wage is done without thought.  How can any legal worker compete legally with the pay the illegals can get without the stranglehold of taxes and minimum wage?  That is blatantly anti-American. I question the patriotism of anyone who supports such horrible things as depriving fair competition to legal US citizens.

There are those illegal immigrants who chose to sneak across the border, then we have those who get a visa, the visa’a expires(knowingly to these particular individuals), then they get lost in the system, the goverment loses track of them & so forth. Tightening down on border patrol may help, but it wont help with those who are given visa’s. Why not do credit checks, background checks, etc., for those who apply for visa’s in the U.S.? This would be no different than any U.S. Citizen who who was born here!

The immigration problem in the U.S. is way out of control.  Congress has a lot of work to do to get this issue under control.  Two things that would be a great start are to eliminate Chain Migration and eliminate the Visa Lottery.
In 1996, the U.S. House and Senate brought legislation to the floor of that would have eliminated Chain Migration and the Visa Lottery. However, Congress chose to deal with only illegal immigration that year and to put off a decision about the two legal immigration categories.
Sadly, neither the U.S. House nor the Senate has yet to address the set-aside issues of Chain Migration and the Visa Lottery.
