Sheriif McMillian is a born leader.  I do not know the man personally but everything that I have seen from him and about him has shown him to be a man of great integrity and strength.  I personally think that Sheriff McMillian is exactly what Jackson needs right now, fair but firm

McMillan is the best thing that ever happened to the city of Jackson.  I am grateful for his no-nonsense approach to law and order and the firm hand he uses in making decisions best for Hinds County, and now the city of Jackson......long overdue!

I came across your blog while checking the news tonight.  Mac is a good man and if he is left to law enforcement, he will take care of the criminal enforcement in a way that has not been done in years.  Having lived in Jackson my first 33 years and in rural Madison County for the last 33 years, I have seen many things happen in Jackson politics and attitudes. I wouldn’t mind moving back to downtown and living in a loft apartment except that my children and grandchildren live in Madison County and I would miss them.  I still work, own property in and support Jackson.
Unfortunately, I notice that we still have far too much negative racial discourse.  Also, unfortunately, for those living in Mr. Stokes district, most of the citizens think that he hung the moon since he is so outspoken on racial issues.  Will we ever get over the tensions brought about by African tribal leaders selling their countrymen to Dutch traders as slaves and delivering them to the Western Hemisphere (not just to the U. S., mind you)?  Slavery has been around almost as long as time.  Just read your bible and World History.  My Scottish ancesters were enslaved by the British on several ocassions and threatened to be beheaded so they left for Virginia in the mid 1600’s then moved to Mississippi in 1803.

There is considerable slavery in the world now and I don’t hear Mr. Stokes on his soap box working to restore human rights and dignity to his distant relatives on the African Continent or those less fortunate on other continents.  Stokes is not the only one who should widen his horizons, there are plenty of race baiters who make a living from stiring up tensions between the races in the United States.  When I was growing up, my dad had a place of business on Farish Street and N Mill St.  I rode my bicycle, played baseball and other sports with black boys from Fortification St to Capitol St and we all got along.  I still see some of them and we are still friends.  I have a black friend who is 85 years old and I have known him since 1946.  The man still works.  He will not stop.  He says that he will die if he ever starts rocking on the front porch of his home.  He calls me several times a week just to say hello and be sure that my family and I are doing well.

Another thing, Dale Danks and I grew up together and he is a fine, honorable man. There is no reason for the snide cruel remarks about him in these posts.  Now, I have never met Mayor Melton, so I can’t express a personal opinion about him.

One more thing while I am on a roll, where did all these people who have been writing these posts go to school ?  Their spelling and grammar is terrible.  All caps is considered shouting and is not good manners.
How many more generations do we have to go through to get our citizens properly educated so that we can get off the bottom of most rungs of measurement?  Misuse of spelling, personal pronouns and tense is an immediate turnoff to the reader and an indication that the writer needs help. An employer does not want an employee representing him/her who writes and/or speaks with a poor grasp of the English language.

We are beginning to get a large Spanish speaking population and if they only learn English in the way some of these posts are written, then they are going to have the same problems.

How are we going to get better jobs for our citizens when they don’t have the proper background in their language, ‘English’?

Well, that’s enough for tonight, I hope that you don’t get too many complaints about my views.
Roger
